Assoc.- Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Steininger
Prof. Dr. Christoph Steininger is a virologist, infectologist and specialist in internal medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. After studying medicine in Innsbruck, he worked at the Medical University of Vienna, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany), Cayetano Heredia University Lima (Peru), and University of California, San Diego (USA). Prof. Steininger is head of the research group "Viral Infections" and the Institute for Microbiome Research of the Karl-Landsteiner Society.
Prof. Dr. med. Adriano Aguzzi
Prof. Dr. Aguzzi is the head of the Institute for Neuropathology at the University Hospital of Zurich (USZ). His major achievement has been the identification of the pathways by which prions reach the central nervous system. Prof. Aguzzi’s work has been recognized by the Marcel-Benoist Award, the Robert-Koch Award, InBev-Baillet Latour Health Prize, three honorary doctorates (Liege, Bologna, Teramo), and a NOMIS Distinguished Scientist Award. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Aguzzi has intensively engaged in COVID-19 research.
